Olympic Gold at Aphrodite Hills
We're not saying she couldn't have done it without us,
but we'd like to think that double Olympic Gold medal winner
Kelly Holmes, was helped on her way to Olympic victory after
her stay at Aphrodite Hills.
Kelly was just one of the big names in British athletics
who used the resort as their home base and training camp
to acclimatise before the 2004 Athens Olympics. As Aphrodite
Hills played host to team GB's cycling and track and field
event teams, as well as the Paralympic track and field teams,
we were pleased to welcome a number of other sports luminaries.
These included 100m runner Darren Campbell, Marathon women
Liz Yelling and Tracey Morris and former competitor turned
coach, Linford Christie.
The track athletes found the rolling undulations of the
18-hole golf course were superb for training runs while
the Retreat proved very popular as the social, communal,
administrative and treatment base. In all, the general consensus
amongst the athletes, was that the resort provided the ideal
training environment in preparation for the summer heat
of the Greek capital.
