> Thermae
The heart of the Spa, the thermae,
is true to the classical and historical heritage of Greco-Roman
bathing rituals of cleansing and relaxation. The word ‘Thermae’
is derived from the ancient Greek word for ‘heat’
and by 315AD, Roman life revolved around this daily bathing ritual
which involved a series of rooms and pools progressively increasing
in temperature tempered with cooling plunge pools and showers.
At the Retreat, the thermae is constructed around a colonnaded
central courtyard on the Lower Level,
leading to an open area and this peaceful haven has gently running
water throughout.
